You May Be Taking the Wrong Multivitamin

Taking a multi-nutrient is one of the most important things you can do for your health. Nowadays, you can't walk into the grocery store and walk out with proper nutrition. It just is not there. That is why we each need food supplementation. Getting the right kind of supplements with the right kind of catalysts is not a simple task. During the course of the next several articles in Absolute Health, I will explain how to do this and I hope you will see the importance of it as we go.

You and I have two very important things in common--we both want to stay healthy and active, and we're both avid information gatherers. I know these things about you because you are here looking at my webpage. This tells me that you not only want to take care of yourself, but you want to do it the right way. And you expect results.

That's why I'd be willing to bet that you're already taking a multivitamin. That's great, but are you becoming healthy? Are you getting real results? Is the right ingredient getting to you cells? If the answer is no, you may be missing out on some of the most important health benefits of all. Let me explain.

All Food Supplements Must Come from Whole Food Sources

It seems that these "grocery Store" vitamins include a scattering of nutrients thrown together, most of the time in insignificant amounts, I believe. They are sorely lacking some of nature's best nutrients (more about that later). And what's worse, those formulas promise even more targeted support, but are really no different. In my opinion, it's nothing but slick advertising.

THIS IS ONE OF THOSE TIMES WHEN YOU REALLY DO GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR

From what I've gathered, most people buy these ordinary multivitamins for two main reasons:

First, there's a general misconception about the government's Recommended Daily Intakes (RDIs), A lot of people think these amounts are all they need, but usually RDIs provide only the barest coverage. The recommendations also assume that everyone gets the necessary nutrition from their diets--and that's virtually impossible to do.

And just "one pill"? That's just ridiculous. For one pill to give you everything you need, it would have to be the size of Texas. Well, not quite, but you get my point. Even some of the better quality multivitamins lack the advanced nutrients I believe you need to feel young and healthy now, and for years to come.

The second reason these supplements are popular is their low cost. These "once-daily" solutions are inexpensive for a reason. If there were ever a case of getting what you pay for, this is it. I don't believe these vitamins give you the best ratios, potencies and mineral forms to make any noticeable difference in your health. In fact, I am certain of it. That's just a waste.

I'm also concerned about how much attention is given to the quality of these mass produced formulas. You need to make sure your vitamins come from high-quality raw materials and are manufactured according to the strictest guidelines--otherwise you may be wasting your money. And even more important, you may be missing out on important benefits. When it comes to nutritional supplements, the best quality will always give you the best benefits. This I know for a fact.

Here's how the right multi-nutrient can make a world of difference in how you feel!

When you take the right multi-nutrient, the transformation in your health can be amazing. I know this because I've spent the better part of my life studying the healthiest people in the world and searching for the best health solutions.

Good nutrition is the key to health. The body cannot exist without food and water. More importantly, the quality and nutritional value of the foods that are eaten greatly impact health.

Foods today are often deficient in good nutritive value for several reasons. The Western diet is comprised mostly of processed and refined foods. These foods are commonly eaten at the expense of nutrient -dense, whole foods. To complicate matters, we are regularly exposed to many environmental toxins, also having a negative impact on our health.

Most people take a multivitamin to supply their body with the nutrients missing from their diet. However, not all multivitamins are the same. Many contain single nutrients in high amounts. Research now suggests that single nutrients, taken out of the food complex, may not be as effective in promoting health as eating the whole food. Whole foods, on the other hand, offer essential nutrients, both known and unknown, that are needed to support health. It is therefore important to offer your patients a whole food multivitamin which contains many of the known and unknown nutrients found in food.

How Calcium Supports Health

Calcium is essential for various body functions beyond bone mineralization, including muscle contraction, nerve conduction, maintenance and function of cell membranes and membrane permeability, blood coagulation, and the proper functioning of many enzyme systems. When selecting a calcium supplement, evaluate the source of the calcium. The three most common sources are calcium carbonate, calcium citrate, and calcium lactate. One major downfall of calcium carbonate is that it is not easily digested and, therefore, poorly assimilated and utilized by the body. Other forms of calcium, such as calcium lactate and calcium citrate, are superior to carbonate. These sources of calcium are more easily absorbed and easier to digest than calcium carbonate. Our supplements are comprised primarily of calcium lactate as it is readily absorbed.

Trace Minerals Are the next Main Ingredient

Trace minerals are important cofactors for many enzymatic reactions in the body. We obtain minerals through our diet or supplements. Poor nutrition due to poor dietary choices can lead to mineral deficiencies. Therefore, it is important for
optimum health to supplement with minerals on a regular basis.

Several Other Components are Important

Although there are several other ingredients that are important to your nutritional health, these are the basics items with which you should build a healthy supplementation program. Other items include Essential Fatty Acids, Phytonutrients, Probiotics, Fiber, Adrenal Support and specific support for the Immune System. I will provide information on each of these in other articles.
